never Miss a beat |
Let's just call me HUNTERESS THOMPSON. (See what I did there?) |
Often when working on a publishing house’s production hub, sound systems collide. Where I work it’s a battle of speakers between two titles. Rarely do these inspire mash-ups, they’re too unplanned. Today, however, the mash-up would have a themed title… Manchester Died In 1984. One magazine began playing New Order’s Blue Monday (it’s a daily occurrence) while the other pondered what to play…
Colleague 1: “Let’s put something upbeat on.”
Colleague 2: “Yeah. Like Morrissey.”
Colleague 1: “Could do. But I want to listen to something new, though.”
Colleague 3: “Yeah like Morrissey. The Smiths! Let’s hear that.”
Colleague 1: “Wow, really? Is it… new?”
Workie: “[Looking confused] That’s definity not new.”
Colleague 3: “Seriously, have you heard the Johnny Marr remastered reissues?! It’s better than new. It’s NEW. That first Smiths album… He brings it alive.”
Colleague 2: “Where is it?”
Colleague 3: “I’ve got ‘em all. They’re BRAND NEW. I’ve got all the MP3s!”
Oh help, save our industry.
